The mission of the Santa Clara County Planning Office
is to make Santa Clara County a better place now and
in the future -- by providing quality planning, implementation
and information services.
The Santa Clara County Planning Office deals with zoning
ordinances and general plan designations. In addition,
it manages various permitting processes, environmental
review, tree removal regulations and land development
regulations within the county.
California Legislature passed the Williamson Act, also
known as The California Land Conservation Act of 1965,
to preserve agricultural and open space lands by discouraging
premature and unnecessary conversion to urban uses.
The Williamson Act is an agricultural land protection
program also managed by the Santa Clara County Planning
Office. Properties under Williamson Contract must meet
specific requirements for development proposals. Land
conservation contracts may be terminated by non-renewal
or by cancellation by approval of the Board of Supervisors
and payment of a penalty by the landowner.
